A government-run or public-option health insurance plan threatens employers and workers, the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry, along with 1,536 business groups, said Tuesday in a letter to Congress.
A national health-care plan would contradict “our system of free enterprise and drive costs upward,” the chamber said. “Any one-size-fits-all approach will end up hurting many of our small businesses, which are our most important job-creators.”
Daniel Mehan, president and chief executive of the Missouri Chamber of Commerce, said that if the health-care legislation is rushed to passage, it would harm businesses at a time when they are still struggling to regain their footing after a historic market collapse.
