Kentucky Chamber of Commerce to present seminar on stimulus

The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce plans to present a one-day seminar titled “Understanding the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act” on Tuesday, June 2, at the Griffin Gate Marriott Resort & Spa, 1800 Newtown Pike, Lexington, Ky.

Topics to be covered include an overview of the money coming to Kentucky, tax changes and opportunities for businesses, changes in energy policy and available grants in various industries.

Rogers-Lowell Chamber now the largest in the state

The Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce has announced it has surpassed the 2,000 member mark. It is the largest chamber of commerce in Arkansas.

The Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce currently reports more than 2.039 member businesses and 4,036 representatives. While this is exciting news for the Chamber, it matters most to member businesses, because the more companies served by the Chamber, the more potential connections and business-building opportunities for member businesses. The chamber’s capacity to effectively serve and monitor the pulse of the business community is enhanced with this membership milestone.

A dynamic, growing membership base is also an excellent indicator of the growth and strength of the local business community. Lots of tooting at Dubuque chamber event

A record 106 businesses turned out to promote their operations at the Toot Your Own Horn Business Expo Thursday.

That's up from 65 businesses at last year's event, hosted by the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce and held at the Grand River Center.

The convention center ballroom was lined with business booths exhibiting services and offering samples -- everything from food to free spray tans.

Barry Gentry, the chamber's director of government affairs and events, said the increased interest is likely due to concern among business owners about promoting their operations in difficult market conditions.

"We're trying to tap into that and make it as economy-friendly as possible," he said, adding that the chamber dropped the price of renting a booth from $150 to $100 and opened it up to the general public instead of just chamber members.

Tim Connelly, of Reliable Technology Inc., said staying proactive in a marketing strategy is critical in any economic climate.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce Takes Message to Movie Theaters

Coming soon to a theater near you: a lobbying campaign!

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce began airing two-minute commercials today in movie theaters in the Washington area and two other cities, part of an escalating campaign against frivolous lawsuits that the group says are hurting innocent victims and small businesses.

Although movie theaters are increasingly home to brand-name commercials and public-service announcements, using them for what amounts to a political lobbying campaign is highly unusual, if not unprecedented. Lisa Rickard, president of the Chamber's Institute for Legal Reform, said she came up with the idea after seeing an appeal for advertising during a recent trip to the movies.

"I felt like it was a real way to go straight to people and communicate to them about the impact of litigation," Rickard said. "The purpose of this is really not lobbying per se, but educating the public about the impact of these abuses."
