Yesterday the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors voted to oppose the Employee Free Choice Act, which should soon be introduced as a bill in the United States Congress. Also known as Card Check, the proposed legislation would prevent employees from having the right, when voting on whether to unionize or not, to vote by private ballot.
"The Chamber's Board of Directors voted to oppose this legislation in order to support Lincoln County's local industries and to maintain economic vitality in our county," commented Ken Kindley, Chamber President. The Chamber, as a follow up to the vote, will send letters stating its position on the matter to United States Senators Kay Hagan and Richard Burr and United States Congressman Patrick McHenry.
